BC Salmon Fishing, Ucluelet

July 19th, 2009

Everyone is fishing full tilt boogey off the west coast of Vancouver Island, BC. Ucluelet has been the hot destination for boat limits of Tyees! We are consistently coming in with between 4 and 6 30 lb plus chinook salmon for the past two weeks. The Southwest corner has absolutly been on fire. 6 inch spoons and 7 inch plugs in the top 100 feet has been producing like crazy. Anything with blue or green patterns.

July 9th, 2009

We have been lucky enough to catch limits of nice chinook salmon and boat limits of nice Halibut while fishing off Long Beach approx 12 miles west of Ucluelet Along Vancouver Islands West coast.

The Bait of Choice are 6 inch Tomic Plugs, 700 pattern, 252, and the 500 were all working quite well. And it kept the shakers to a minimum.

Work through the big tides and you will get your fish, both Salmon and Halibut.

Good Luck on your next fishing trip.

Halibut Fishing at Anchor, Ucluelet

Halibut Fishing at Anchor, Ucluelet

The Fishing Season is in full swing off the west coast, Daily Limits of Halibut are being caught at the Shallow Spot 18 miles south of Ucluelet.

We hooked in to a pair of 40’s, a 50, and a 67lb Halibut after setting the pick at one of my favorite spots on Friday. Then on Sunday we backed it with with a 22, 45, and a 60 lb Halibut, at another hot spot. Also on the Pick (Anchor). We also landed a chicken but you guys don’t want to hear about that.

Alley Rock, Long Beach, and Portland Point produced limits of Chinnok Salmon ranging from 15-25 lbs, although some days you had to work a little harder.

The Coyote 3.5 to four inch in green and silver, and blue and silver with about a 4-5 ft leader seemed to be the lure of choice.

Keep tuned in for more fishing reports.

Prawn Fishing off Capstan Island and Prideaux Island is producing between 2 dozen and 4 dozen Prawns per trap for an overnight soak.

The Shellfish Ban has been lifted for portions of Barkley Sound and there is an abundance of Oysters, and Clams if you have the energy to dig them, around Toquart Bay and the Stopper Islands.

All this from the tiny fishing Villiage of Ucluelet off the West Coast of Vancouver Island, BC.

Grab your gear, its time to go fishing, remember to buy a new license, your one from last year expired at the end of March, and don’t forget your Salmon tag.
